About Art Therapy

Some quick answers....

  • Sessions are 50 Minutes.

  • NDIS and Private Clients welcome.

  • No referral is needed.  An intake session will be booked before the first session with either yourself or a caregiver (if under 18).

  • Intake sessions will explain the art therapy process and allow time to discuss essential information about you or your child's background, concerns, as well as goals for therapy.

  • Intakes also provide an opportunity to establish rapport, clarify expectations, and ensure that both you and art therapy are a good fit for each other.

  • For children, welcoming parents, case managers, or caregivers into the intake session allows for a collaborative understanding of your child's needs and ensures everyone is on the same page regarding the therapeutic process. It provides an opportunity for you to ask questions, share your perspectives, and express any concerns you may have about your child's well-being.

  • Fortnightly Sessions are recommended,  however, adults sometimes choose monthly depending on their needs

  • NDIS and DCP reports are available when required

But what do we actually do?

Creative art therapy is focused on you.

Your goals, your interests and your needs.

Processes can include:

creative writing, construction, deconstruction, clay, slime making, craft, lego, painting, drawing, collage, storytelling through figurines, stop motion movie making, nature arrangements, mask making, sensory play and more.

Sometimes we just make a mess and that's ok too!

Your imagination is the limit.

How is it different to talk therapy?

You don't need to talk,  or sit still if that's not your thing, all ways of engaging are welcomed!

Art therapy supports communication through the creation of art. It allows you to express complex emotions and experiences that might be challenging to convey verbally. The creative process itself is considered therapeutic, and the resulting artwork is often used as a tool to engage in exploration and communication.

But I am not an artist?

Its OK!!

This is not an art class, I repeat, this is not an art class! The end product is rarely the intention, what happens in the process is where the therapy lays. Plus I truly believe there is creativity in all of us, it just needs a kind little nudge!

Who can access art therapy?

Children from 5yrs and everyone beyond! In essence, the adaptability of art therapy, and its ability to meet you where you are emotionally and mentally, is the beauty of its effectiveness as a therapeutic modality.

Art therapy's collaborative and client-centred nature empowers you as an individual to actively participate in your healing process.

I'd also really like to know....

How much does art therapy cost?

Art therapy can be accessed through your NDIS plan under Capacity Building Support to meet your goals. Standard hourly NDIS rates apply for sessions and report writing.

Private clients can access sessions and pay upon arrival, or via an upfront payment for a discounted block valid for 6 months.

All art materials are included and you are welcome to request something specific if we don't already have it. Allergies and sensory preferences can be catered for, please ask at your intake session.

What do I wear?

Dress for comfort and possible mess, for children I suggest changing out of school uniform if coming straight from school. I offer aprons and a clean-up station, but some mess just sticks around!
